Turkish bread, also known as “pide,” is a popular type of flatbread in Turkish cuisine. It features an oval shape and is known for its soft and slightly chewy texture. Here’s a basic recipe for making Turkish bread at home:

Ingredients:
- 500g flour
- 150ml hot milk
- 150ml warm water
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tbsp of dry yeast
- 3 tbsp of olive oil
- chopped parsley
- chilli flakes
Directions:
- Mix the salt and yeast into the flour. Then, knead the mixture until the milk and warm water are all absorbed. Add olive oil and knead for 10 minutes or until smooth. Form the dough into a ball, cover it with vegetable oil, and let it rest in a warm place for an hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Cut the dough into six pieces when it has completed rising, and then roll each piece into a ball. Roll out each flatbread and place it on a pan that has been prepared over medium-high heat. Cook for 5 to 6 minutes, 2.5 to 3 minutes per side. Each flatbread should create a pocket in the center when you turn it. Brush each heated flatbread with oil before topping them with parsley and chili flakes.
The Turkish bread recipe is adaptable and can be used in a multitude of ways. You can use it as a base for pizza-like toppings, roll it up with fillings to make a sandwich-like wrap, or simply enjoy it on its own with some olive oil and spices for dipping.
